GOLD ROBBERY.
THE SENSATION ON SONOMA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—copyright. Sydney, Dee. 30'. The Sonoma has arrived. Details of the gold robbery supplied by the officers show extended search by detectives failed to locate the missing gold. Then Knudsen, assistant - engineer, tapping a vent pipe, noticed that it sounded unusual. He investigated and found 5200 sovereigns inside. The finding of the boxes of gold in the harbor occurred in the -following manner: A wharf laborer heard a splash and asked a quartermaster who was near if someone had fallen overboard. The reply was “Ng.” The wharfie saw a box sinking in the water and thought it was a cask of whisky, but said nothing. When the news of the robbery leaked out the wharfie told the officers his experiences. The harbor was dragged and the three missing boxes of gold strung together -were hooked up. In the meantime the quartermaster had disappeared.
