Mr. and Mrs. Lysons motored to Wanganui this week, where they will spend a few days before going up the river. Mr. and Mrs. Nancarrow (Hawera) and Mr. and Mrs. J. Glenn (Mangaweka), who have been on a short visit to New Plymouth, return by motor this afternoon. Mrs. Wialter Bayly was hostess at a most enjoyable dance at Kawaroa Park last night, the guests of the evening being Mr. and Mrs. Owen Bayly, of Auckland. Mrs. Harold Abraham, Mrs. Budge and Miss Angela Wright (Stratford) were visitors here for the race§. THE COCAINE HABIT. ALARMING SPREAD IN EUROPE. London, Nov. 19. The correspondent oC the Times at Geneva states that an alarming increase in the cocaine habit has led to the arrest of 14 persons, including a chemist, a doctor of science, and several hotelkeepers. They have been charged with trafficking in the drug. A doctor who was summoned to attend three danting girls at a restaurant found that all were suffering from overdoses of cocaine. One of the girls had attempted to commit suicide. It is believed that the drug is obtained from Germany, and sold in cachet form at five franco a grain. The principal dealers frequent low-class restaurants. but dressmakers supply their clients, and disabled men have been found h:ding cachets in small drawers inserted in their artificial limbs.
