HOLIDAYS TILL WEDNESDAY. FIXTURES IN TARANAKI. Retail shops in New Plymouth will be open till ten o’clock to-night, New Year’s Eve, ahd will then close down till Wednesday morning. Thete are a number of holiday fix-* tures in Taranaki during the New Year vacation. Races at Stratford on Monday and Tuesday’ will no doubt claim the attention of a large ctowd of followers of this branch of sport, and a boxing tournament is to be held at Stratford on Monday night. There are two seaside picnics in New Ply-* mouth on Monday, the Ngamotu annual gathering and also a picnic and sports at the East End, and both these resorts provide pleasant holiday grounds. Other picnicking centres on that day will be the Ngaere Gardens and Taumata Park, Eltham. Trips to the nlountain are largely in favor at this time of the year, when conditions for making the ascent become more favorable, in addition to the fact that the reserve abounds in beautiful scenic spots. An attraction for bowlers next- week is the Taranaki Centre’s local ttnirrtameht, which takes place on the New Plymouth, Fitzroy and West End greens on Monday and Tuesday.
