RELEASE OF SOCIALIST.
A REMARKABLE WELCOME. WILL WORK AGAINST WAR. By Teiegrapn.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received. Dee. 28, 11.5 p.m. New York, Dec. 28. The release of Eugene Debs, the ‘Socialist, who has been released from prison on pardon after being convicted for making speeches against the war, lias been attended by extraordinary scenes of entllusiasm among Socialists. Huge crowds greeted him when he left the penitentiary at Atlanta, Georgia, women- throwing themselves about his neck and kissing him. Debs then came to Washington and consulted President Harding and Mr. Dougherty, and declared he would not put limitation on his futhre activities. He declared himself a citizen of the world,, dedicating himself to the task of abolishing war. He predicted that the armament conference would be a failure, merely cheapening the next war by the use of deadlier machines. Thousands crowdeel about the train before he left for his home at Terra Haute. Indiana, where a parade of twenty-five thousand is expected to greet him and escort him home.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
