MENACE OF UNREST. SERIOUS DISTURBANCES. TROOPS GUARD CANAL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn..—Copyright. Received Dec. 28, 5.5 p.m. London, Dec. 27. A Foreign Office communique states disturbances continue in Cairo. Upper Egypt is reported quiet. Troops have taken charge of Suez and Port Said. Other reports state that during a disturbance at Zifta Egyptian troops fired on the mob, killing sixteen. Fresh troubles 'occurred at Port Said, in which two rioters were killed. The great majority of employees in Cairo have resumed, but there are sporadic strikes in several places in the provinces. Alexandria is fairly quiet. Four hundred agitators have been arrested.—Reuter. MORE DISTURBANCES. ATTEMPTS TO WRECK TRAINS. MANY ARRESTS MADE. Received Dec. 28, 7.25 p.m. London, Dec. 28. A foreign Office communique states that Tuesday’s casualties in Cairo were eleven Egyptians killed and fourteen wounded. The British suffered no casualties. The disturbances continue and attempts have been made to wreck the railway. One train was derailed on December 25 jn Lower Egypt, the chief area of the provincial disturbances. A number of arrests were made in Cairo and Alexandria. Eight armed Nile steamers, under naval officers, are operating in Upper and Lower Egypt. — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
