The Scrub Bull Not The Only Robber The “Live Stock Bulletin” has been hammering away at the Scrub Bull for years, and more and more men are satisfied that he is a curse and a robber. But he is not the only robber. The unthrifty cow may not be as big a loss as tbe scrub bull, but she is a heavy loss just tbe same. The loss of 5/- per month per cow means a loss of £ 1500 in ten years on a herd of 50 cows, and a 5/- loss can easily be made by neglecting to drench a cow after calving. A. good Drench means tbe cleansing of the system, the toning of it, tbe strengthening of it, and the enriching of the blood. Good, rich blood means a healthy, vigorous cow in the right fettle to do her season’s work. The best of al) Drenches is Sykes’s Drench -—the proved friend of Australian and New Zealand dairymen for over 20 years. Men like Mr. W. P. Brisbane, the well-known Ayrshire breeder of Victoria, swear by Sykes’s Drench. They realise the necessity for cleansing the cow’s system and of building up her blood. Sykes’s Drench is sold at 1/6 pkt. (sufficient for drenchtwo cows) or 1 7/- by the dozen; in case lots of 6 dozen, 16/- per dozen. It may be obtained from all chemists and progressive stores j

Many of our readers have already purchased tickets for the Wellington Plunket Home Art Union. When the Art Union was originally advertised, it was stated that the first prize would be a Chevrolet motor car, plus £lOO. However, legal difficulties ensued in connection with the motor car (which was donated by Mr. J. B. McKenzie). Some objection was taken by the authorities to this form of prize-giving. Mr. McKenzie has now kindly agreed to substitute £3OO worth of alluvial gold specimens in place of the motor car,, which, with the original £lOO worth, will make the prize of the value of £4OO. Those i who have purchased tickets will, of course, participate in all the privileges of the new scheme. The popularity of this Art Union has been attested by the big demand for tickets from all parts of New Zealand. The generous prize, and the excellence of the cause behind the scheme, are responsible for this rsult. The proceeds will go towards the fund for providing Wellington with a modern and commodious Plunket headquarters, which will also form the nucleus for a Karitane Home. The citizens of Wellington have already subscribed over £3OOO for the purpose, but a much larger sum is required. Tickets can be obtained from J. R. McKenzie, fancy goods dealer, Cuba Street and Willis Street, Wellington, and branches throughout New Zealand, and from leading retailers, tobacconists and hairdressers, also from the Plunket rooms, or the hon. secretary P.O. box 208, Wellington. Mail orders should en«lose stamped addressed envelppe.
