MAN’S INHUMANITY TO MAN.
A HORRIBLE STORY. Ashburton, Dec. 20. The inquest int» the death of William Henry Wall concluded to-day. The evidence of several witnesses showed that Wall had been drinking heavily on the day of the accident. The Coroner (Mr. James Gow) returned a verdict that deceased was accidentally killed by falling from a trap, while under the influence of liquor. A rider was added that the -whole circumstances showed callousness and great want of thought by those connected with the ca*V?- Instead of being put into the coach, the deceased was helped to a trap driven by a schoolboy. Both were thrown out, Wall’s spine being broken. According to the evidence the coaehman then lifted the deceased into the bottom of the coach and allowed him to remain there for three hour*, when he was taken into a house and placed on a sofa, unattended, for the night. Nineteen hours were permitted to elapse before medical attention was secured. The Coroner concluded: Il is fortunate for those concerned that the medical evidence said immediate medical attention would not have altered the result. This, however, does not excuse the conduct of those concerned.
