THOUSANDS UNEMPLOYED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 22, 9.50-p.m. Sydney, Dec. 22. Many more workshops and factories have given the employees notice that they are closing, with a proviso that they can again apply for employment after the holidays. From to-morrow it is estimated there will be over 15,000 unemployed in the metropolitan area. The Amalgamated Society of Engineers has suggested that the Government take over the Clyde workshops in order to carry out existing orders. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
