HOSPITAL BOARDS
PROTEST AGAINT CENTRALISATION By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 22. The Hospital Board strongly resents the proposed alteration, refusing to allow boards to appoint doctors, matrons and other officers without the approval of the Minister. The chairman, Mr. Castle, denounced it as a reactionary proceeding which would bring about a reversion to the centralised bureaucratic form of control abandoni 1 by Parliament years ago on account of the unsatisfeiory results, and urged members to support his opposition. Members were unanimously with him, and considered the boards would be reduced to mere scullions responsible for the kitchen arrangements and nothing else. As the chairman put it, the boards were in effect being told that they could, not be trusted.
