THE MOUNTAIN HOUSE.
EXTENSIONS COMPLETED. Yesterday the builders completed the erection of the eight additional rooms to the North Egmont Mountain House. They are detached from the main building, being located to the south-east. They are built in cubicle form, with a spacious verandah, and at one end are a shower, etc. A drying-room has also been built at the rear of the kitchen, and this should prove a great convenience to climbers. A new electric generating set is now being installed. The old plant, it will be remembered, was destroyed by fire over a year ago. The new plant is capable of lighting the whole of the present buildings or future extensions thereof, and should be available for use to-morrow. A good deal of excavation work has been done at the rear of the main building and the spoil utilised in building up ground alongside the croquet lawn. Later on this will probably be used for the purpose of a tennis court.
