ALLEGED ILLEGAL FISHING. By Telegraph—Press AssociationAshburton. 1 Dec. 19. The police report that a successful raid was made upon stroke haulers fishing at the Rangitata River’s mouth on Saturday night. Three local anglers were alleged to have been caught red-handed with illegal tackle, one being apprehended aftei an exciting chase with a live eel suspended from a rod. Prosecution will probably follow. The practice of stroke-hauling has been growing at an alarming rate, according to reports, throughout the Dominion, to the great injury of fishing and the sport of legitimate anglers.
