WIRELESS TELEPHONY.
LONDON TO AMSTERDAM. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Dec. 19, 5.5 p.m. London, Dec. 18. A quite successful application of commercial wireless telephony was carried out by the Marconi Company in co-operation with the British and Dutch postal authorities. The ordinary telephone trunk line from London to Southwokl was used, and speech automatically transferred at the latter point to wireless, which was relayed from Zandvoort by the land line to Amsterdam. A feature of the test was the introduction of duplex and an unusually short wave length, whereby the conversation was carried on as in the ordinary local telephone circuit. A difference of three metres in wave length between the outgoing and incoming waves was maintained, and the clearness of the conversation equalled that of the adjacent suburban exchanges, and was quite immune from disturbances by high-powered wireless telegraph stations.—-Aus.-N.Z.
