I The Red Cross Society has announced that it has secured the services of Sir Benjamin Robertson, an Indian famine expert, who proceeds to Russia forthwith to control famine relief. The society is satisfied this will assure contributors in England and overseas that money and goods subscribed will reach the most needy. FRANCE AND THE VATICAN. Krassin has appealed against the def cision awarding the Fenton Textile Association £45,638 for goods delivered to the Russian Co-operative Society, whom Krassin represented, on the ground that he was immune from the service of the process in England. The Appeal Court ruled that Ki assin’s position as an official agent under the trade agreement did not give immunity from the civil process, and dismissed the appeal.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. A GRIM TRAGEDY. Rome, Dec. 15. Dressed and bejewelled, seemingly ready, for the theatre or a dance, the dead bodies of a millionairess, Madame Cogo, and her adopted daughter were found seated at the dining table in her house in Rome. The police were informed by a servant girl, who made an extraordinary statement and said that Madame Cogo had three nephews, university students, w'ho, apprehensive of their aunt's fortune going to the adopted daughter, broke into the house and suffocated the women in their beds, then dressed the bodies and carried them to the djning-room, afterwards lighting the fire to create an impression that they had been suffocated by the fumes. The servant said she watched the proceedings from a hiding place. The nephews and their father were arrested.—United Service. AMERICAN STRIKE RIOTS. New York, Dec. 15. The rioters at Pittsburg and Kansas City were successfully dispersed only after Federal troops arrived on the scene. The women strike supporters would not face arrest. Warrants have been issued for the leaders. Efforts will also be made to apprehend all participators. The Government Prosecutor stated that no leniency would be shown to women on account of their sex.
