FRANKLEY ROAD SCHOOL.
BREAKING-UP CEREMONY. DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES. The school year at Frankley Road ended yesterday afternoon, when the annual breaking-up ceremony and distribution of prizes took place in the school gymnasium. There were on the platform: Mr. R. J. Deare (member of the Taranaki Educa- 1 tion Board), Mr. F. A. Lee (chairman of the school committee), Messrs. W. H. Haddrell, E. Taylor and J. Ward (members of the school committee). Before the prizes were distributed the children gave a very pleasing rendering of several of their school songs, which earned hearty applause. Mr. Lee then called upon Mr. Deare to present, the prizes. Mr. Deare offered the board’s congratulations on a successful year’s work. He noted with pleasure that the attendance was again on the increase. Mr. Deare mentioned that, representations had recently been made to the department for the purpose of obtaining 4 acres of land on the opposite side of the road for the school. The speaker also read a telegram from Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., regretting that he could not be present, but. sending his best wishes for a pleasant holiday. Mr. Deare concluded by wishing the children a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. PRIZE LIST. Standard 6.—Sidney West dux prize, Eric Tonks 2, Alice Wickham 3. Primer 2. —Eileen Booker, Phyllis Hoyle, Gladys Kenny, Zoe Dane, Reviile Boswell, Leslie St.ronge. Primer I.—Nellie Richardson first for marks. Others who received prizes were: Clara Wickhaun, Belle Hancock, Herbert Richardson, Ronald Taylor, Stanley Warren, Clifford Hodgson, Murray McNair, Royal Warren. ATTENDANCE PRIZES. Mr. Sims (headmaster) added a few remarks, in the course of which he mentioned that Miss Mouatt had been transferred to Wiestown, where she continued to do good work. Mr. Sims then referred to the impending departure of Miss Hair, who had been assistant at the school for nine years. Mr. Sims piad a tribute to her good work during that time, and the children, parents and other teachers all joined in regret at her departure. After the function afternoon tea was dispensed.
