THE NEW YEAR.

MESSAGE TO TARANAKI. FROM THE PRIME / MINISTER. I have been asked to send a few words of Christmas greeting to the people of Taranaki, who have in the past so well contributed their share to the general prosperity of the Dominion. In acceding to the request, I think 1 cannot do better than express to them the homely, yet ever timely, wish that the present festive season may be ‘for them “A Merry Christmas,” and tnat it may bring in its train “A Bright and Happy New Year.” The clouds that have so long darkened the international horizon are breaking, and there is every promise of brighter days ahead. lam firmly convinced that, with the blessing of Providence, we shall, by working in unity, continue to maintain our premier position amongst the nations of the British Commonwealth. My wannest good wishes go out to-day, not only to the people of Taranaki, but to our fellow citizens in every part of the Dominion, and of the greater Empire beyond. that the coming year may be, for each and all, one of peace and prosperity. W. MASSEY. Prime Minister. Prime Minister's Office, Wellington, Dec. 14. 1921. (First Prize Short Story Competition.)
