(By Carolyn Wells.) Fidoodle-Ding was a dear little thing, In a dog-house fine lived he; And he slept all night, while the dogstar bright Shone Mown through the dog-wood tree. When Fidoodle woke, as the morning broke. He yawned and he licked his paw; Then he blinked his eyes in a glad surprise At the wonderful sight lie saw! All sorts of toys for doggy joys, And dog-roses in a vase; He barked with glee as the Christmas tree Greeted his dogged gaze. Said Fidoodle-ding, “If I could but sing Like a nightingale or lark My thanks I’d tell in sweet doggerel — But I can only bark!”
