BOXING.

THE INGLEWOOD TOURNAMENT. GRAHAM DEFEATS GREAVES. The first tournament to be held at Inglewood took place in the Inglewood Town Hall last night, when there was a good attendance. The programme submitted proved a splendid one and was much appreciated by all present, and should further popularise the sport in that centre. The principal attraction was the professional contest of 15 rounds between A. ! Greaves, of Australia, and Jock Graham, of Auckland, and this proved a particularly brilliant bout, ending in a win for Graham by a knock-out in the eleventh round. At its conclusion the referee (Mr. A. Maxwell, of Wellington), announced that, the bout was one of the best, he had ever refereed in. The arrangements for the contest were in the hands of the Taranaki Boxing Association. 1 whose officials filled their usual places with | distinction. The general arrangements naa been in the hands of the Taranaki Association and an Inglewood sub-committee, and reflect credit on those bodies, and particularly on the secretaries, Messrs. N. B. Howell and R. Geddes. THE PRELIMINARIES. Welter weight.—C. Smith (New Plymouth) 10.6 v. ,T. Willis (New Plymouth) 10.2. At the close of the four-round bout the referee awarded a draw. J. K. Heavy-weight.—Tuku (New Plymouth) 12 4 beat Wallace (Tarata) lift on points over the full distance. Light-weight.—W. Coates (Omata) 9.4, met Sharroek (Stratford) 9.9, the latter replacing Coombes (Oaonui), who was unable to onake the trip. Coates forced the pace and compelled Sharroek to quit before the conclusion of the second round. Middle weight.—B. W. Humphreys (Eltham), who was set down to box P. O’Carroll (Inglewood), did not put in an appearance, so the latter boxed an interesting four rounds exhibition spar with T. Thompson, the wellknown Omata professional. PROFESSIONAL CONTEST. .T.
