DISTRICT NEWS.
LOWGARTH. (From Our Own' Correspondent.) The Finnerty Road School concert held in the local hall on Friday evening last was one of the best entertainments given locally for a long time. The night was one of the wont possible, rain falling continuously throughout, but notwithstanding that drawback the ball was comfortably filled. The coimmlttee til worked well and everything went off without a hitch. The teachers (Miss E. Rowntree and Miss E. Belcher) are to be highly congratulated on the splendid display given by the pupils, which allowed that a. lot of time end patience had been taken. The ladies are also to he congratulated upon the discipline shown. Joe and Sam, the darkey comedians, kept things lively with their local jokes and
conundrums. The concert was followed by a dance, which was kept going until daylight, the dancers prefering to dance than go home in the rain. Miss Hall supplied excellent dance music, while Mr. C. Candy acted as M.C. The following programme was submitted to an enthusiastic audience: —Pianoforte solo, A Sailor’s Dream; song, senior pupils; recita* tion, Bertha Ogle; song, junior girls; dialogue, What Shall I Be; song, senior pupils; recitation, Grace Carter; song, junior pupils; recitation. May Jones; trio, senior girls; dialogue, junior girls; song, senior girls; recitation, May Walker; duet. May and Freda Walker; recitation. Tommy Vincent; song, senior pupils; song, senior girls; recitation, Florry Nairn; song, junior girls; song, senior .pupds; dialogue, senior pupils; recitation, Jimmy Vincent.
