ENTERTAINMENTS.

TAINUI MAORI ENTERTAINERS. An exchange, referring to a recent performance of the Tainui Entertainers, states: Several members of the party possessed very pleasing voices, and the majority of the numbers given were old favorites, including “Annie Laurie,” “Home, Sweet Home,” “God Will Provide,” “No One Knows,” and others. Several concerted items were given in a tuneful style that earned well deserved encores. One comic item that was particularly good was “Mr. Booze.” A yodeling song was another good item, but perhaps the most popular numbers of the evening .were the plaintive Hawaiian melodics on the ukelele, with banjo accompaniment. These were very nicely rendered, and were a welcome novelty. The Tainui Entertainers appear at the Empire Theatre to-morrow night.

STUDENTS’ RECITAL. The music loving section of the community will hear with pleasure that a I pianoforte and song recital is to be given in the Empire Theatre on Monday evening next entirely by students of these two branches of the art of music. There is something particularly fascinating about the work of those who take the study of this art seriously enough to warrant their being brought out on to the concert platform, and when the venture is undertaken by a teacher with the reputation and qualifications of Mr. Arnold O. Sturrock, the public may be sure that not only will the recital be worthily presented but that the items selected will be of a high standard, and in keeping with the aim of his work. Added to these attractions the public may also look forward to hearing some performers ’•who are new to the local concert platform. some of whom have only recently settled in New Plymouth. The box plan opens at Collier's on Thursday, the 15th inst., and the prices of admission are 3s and 2s.
