CONTROL OF HOSPITALS.

NEW BILL INTRODUCED. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) The Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Amendment Bill, introduced in the House, contains some important provisions. Lt limits the powers of hospital boards and increases the powers ot the Minister for Health at various points. . No hospital board is to appoint any medical officer, secretary, matron, manager or engineer without the consent. nF the Minister. Estimates of expenditure are to be prepard in the form »e--quired by the Minister, who may require a board to amend its estimates it they do not meet with his approval. Failure, to provide the estimates or to amend them if required will involve ie withholding of the Government subsidy. Tile Minister is given power to require boards to make by-laws for .their institutions. If they fail he may make the by-laws by ordor-in-eouneil. 'Power is provided for the issue of regulations relating to private liospuals. Other provisions tighten up the law regarding private hospitals.
