MEDICAL INSPECTION.

COMPLAINT FROM PARENTS. Dissatisfaction with the manner in which the medical inspection of the school children in this district are carried out was expressed at Tuesday’s meeting of the Stratford Hospital Board. The matter was brought up by Mr P. Thomson, who said that at a recent meeting of the Manaia School Committee a resolution had been carried protesting against the manner in which the inspections were carried, out. Mr. Thomson said that he had written to the chairman of the Stratford School Committee suggesting that he should write the authorities in Wellington to obtain a. ruling on the power of the medical inspector and the rights of the children. The examination at Manaia was made before a class of boys and girls, and it was pointed out at the Manaia committee meeting that the reports were not confidential. Parents were there when the child was brought up and examined and remarks were made in front of other parents. Mr. Thomson pointed out the undesirability of remarks being made before other parents, and also before other children who would use the remarks to tease an unfortunate child. Mr. Were remarked that there were no parents present. Mr. Thomson said, that he did not object provided that the examination was carried out in a proper manner. y The chairman said that the Hospital Board was not the Board of Health. Mr. Thomson said they were a board .dealing with public health. He moved the following resolution: “That the board is in hearty accord with and strongly supports the resolution passed by the Manaia School committee in connection with medical examinations of the school children and that a copy of the resolution be forwarded to the Minister of Education.” The motion was seconded by Mr. J. O’Neil, and carried.
