Horse-owners and trainers are notified that acceptances for all first day events of the Taraiiaki Jockey Club’s Christmas meeting dose with the secretary at New Plymouth tomorrow (Friday), at 9 p.m. TURF TOPICS. (By “Moturoa.”) Mr. H. Coyle’s weights for the first day of tt e Taranaki Jockey Club’s Christmas •meeting promise to keep early “pickers” fairly busy. Form has been pretty well exposed recently, and the various events look very open. In the Christmas Handicap Volo appears to have been well eared for with 9.8. Kilrush is nicely placed with 8.10, but Ngita, though undoubtedly a coming fiat, middle distance horse, has eaught It hot with 8.7. Stork, although he failed at Woodville, has earned every pound of 8.2, and is the p:ck of the handicap. Egmont Park, 7.10, cannot be overlooked; nor Kareao 7.1. The Flying Handicap is another race that offers a wide field for speculation.- Tama-a-roa is in the role of honor with 9.0, but will be busy conceding 81bs. to Inah. Simonides is weil in with 8.5, but his recent form has not been good. Inah’s most dangerous opponents appear to be Esthonia, 7.13, and Income, 7.12. Awake is handicapped up to his best form in the Stewards’ Handicap, but. fit and weil should be quite capable of giving a goou showing with 9.0. Mixture (8.4) and Deucalion (8.1) should also run well. The big field of hurdlers engaged will take some sort-, ing out. Simon is entitled to his n. 12, and should hold Loan safe at a difference of Slbs. Active (10.10) is on the up grade, and looks like developing into a decent hurdler. Halcyon (9.8) may hold most of the .’igarweights safe. smart lot appear in the Juvenile Handicap, and Mockery (8.4), The Dunce (8.3), and Roman (8.2), can all go fairly fast. The Lepperton Hack Welter • should give Sunny Jim (9.13) and Muraahi (9.10) opportunities to show up. Accepta-.if.es for first day’s events close on Friday, December 16, at 9 p.m. The Manawatu Cup has drawn an acceptance of twenty-one, including Molyneaux, Marqueteur, Rude. Kilrush, and Paoanui, who will all carry big money. The principal absentees are Rouen, Loveunatch. Isabel, Kdgour (who has gone wrong), arid Aureate. Molyneaux appears to be likejy to start favorite. In the Fitzherbert Handicap, tke second "leg” of the Palmerston “double,” Tama-ete, Tigrinia and Birkie read as well as anything in a moderate field. Sir Geo. Clifford's team for Ellerslie will include Winning Hit. Purple Spur, Miss Mimic, and Whipping Boy. Mr. G. D. Greenwood will be represented by Gloaming. Pluto,. Vespucci, Farceur, and Egotism. Mr. J. H. Jefferd’s team will- include Epitaph, Fulsome, Penitent, and Ruruwai. she Auckland/Summer meeting promises to be a great gathering .*
