THE UNION JACK.

QUESTION OF ALTERATIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 12. The Daily Mail asks: “Is the Union Jack and the incorporation of Dominion and other flags doomed as the result of the creation of the Irish Free State? This question the College of Heralds is considering.” The paper points out that the removal of the cross of St. Patrick after 120 years will transform the appearance of the flag. It will certainly become the flag under which great victories were won in the 17th and 18th centuries, but to most minds the sentimental loss will be great. It probably will be found that the deletion is not absolutely necessary. Other possible changes include the abolition of the • title of the United Kingdom, the removal of the harp from the Royal Standard and coat of arms, and the substitution of the Ulster emblems.
