TARANAKI EXECUTIVE. MARKETING OF PRODUCE. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held at Hawera yesterday. Present: Messrs K. Dunn (chairman), K. The matter of the sale of New Zealand butter in England was l , discussed. The secret-ary (Air. Buckeridge) said that the manner in which New Zealand goods- were being handled at Home had been going on for years. He considered that a great demand could be created for New Zealand goods in England by judicious advertising.

After further discussion it was resolved: “That this executive is of opinion that it is highly in the interests of the producers that the system of marketing of our produce should be considerably improved, and suggests that the first essential towards this end is to advertise systematically both by means of lectures, delivery of samples of produce, and judicious use of newspapers to create a demand for the article under.its own name, and that some system of co-operative marketing should be adopted on similar lines to that outlined by the Dominion President topwork alongside the present competitive'system, and to ensure that retail customers shall be supplied with New Zealand produce when tltey ask for it.”

The Otakeho branch forwarded the following resolution: —That the urgent necessity for immediate improvement in the marketing of New Zealand produce be brought before' the Government, with a strong recommendation for early action in the matter, such action not to be delayed for an indefinite time pending reports regarding existing conditions, and that a Producers’ Hoard be formed to operate in New Zealand in conjunction wftgi a representative in London, such representative to be selected at Home and have expert knowledge of business, London markets and the channels through which' the produce reaches consumers, and to have all support from the High Commissioner’s 1 office,”

’Tht chairman said that he had. pointed out at a meeting at Otakeo. that, a Producers’ Committee had been set up t.o deal with this master, but had not arrived at a satisfactory solution yet. He moved that Otakeho bo agnin informed that there was a Pi-edueers' CQtUDfittee in New Zealand attending tithe matter referred to- —Carried. A resolution was. received from the Afanaia branch, "©commending a redm tiou of rents on leasehold farms the adoption of a sliding scale according to the price of butter-qual-ity of land. —It was decided to inform the Manaia branch fidUt the matter was one in which the; Executive could not interfere,, out wMsidered that circumstances wo-Uld bring about an equitable adjustment. It was decided that a letter of sympathy be sent to Mr. C. R. Stannard, who recently met with an accident on the Hawera railway station.
