LATEST OFFICIAL FIGURES. A DECREASE SHOWN. The Abstract of Statistics for November states: The index number for the three food groups as at October 15 (Dominion weighted average) is 1674, a decrease of 47 points as compared with the preceding month’s figure (17*20), and an increase of 56.45 per cent, as compared with that for July, 1914. In the groceries group, the fall oi 9 points is due to decreases in several items, the fall being most general in ~the case of potatoes and tea. A decrease in the price of sugar in several towns has also contributed substantially to the fall. The fall oi 127 points in the dairyproducts gfroup is due mainly to a considerable decrease in the price of butter in all towns; the extent of the fall varying from twopence to sixpence in the case of different towns. The inSex number for the meat group has fallen 41 points, the decline being due mainly to an all-round decrease in the price of beef.
