BOXING.
AN INTERESTING BATTLE. Bj’ Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 5. Carpentier, Cook, Beckett and Llayd witnessed a contest in which the Belgian Wyns, feather-weight champion of Europe, dramatically knocked out Callicott in the ‘seventeenth round, though the Englishman had been leading throughout on points. Wilde was referee. COOK NOT FANCIED. Under the leading “Cook’s Credentials,” London’s All Sports Weekly says: "A review of the situation demands that Cook shall be tested further before he is sent against Carpentier. An analysis of his two points victories over Jack Curphey and Frank Goddard show him as not possessing an ‘earthly’ with the Frenchman. Here is the form in a nutshell : Wells—beaten by Georges in a few seconds—K.O. Curptey in three rounds. Beckett.—also K.O. by Georges in jig time. Beat Go’ddard in two rounds. "Admitting that collateral form docs not always work out to the book, at the same time, it often does so, and iu the best interests of the sport I think Cook should be asked another question before he aspires to Carpentier. At any rate, he should first meet our champion, whether he be Beckett or McCormick.”
