QUEEN CARNIVAL.
POSITION OF THE CANDIDATES. The West (End School Queen Carnival candidates are now placed as follows: Breakwater (H. Koti) 214’2, Vvestown (M. Garcia) 3080,, Kawaroa (G. Hill) 1170, Devon Street (J. Smart) 1710. A children’s plain and fancy dress ball was held at Kawaroa Park Bungalow on Monday evening, the proceeds -being, in aid of the Kawaroa candidate in the West End school carnival queen contest. The function had been arranged by Mr. J. Hoskin, and as’ is usual with anything undertaken and organised by him a great success was achieved. Tne building was crowded, between 50 and 60 couples taking part in the grand march, and as most of the children were in fancy costume the judges (Mrs. Olli ver and Mrs. J. Hooker) had a very difficult task in making their awards. The prizes were awarded as follow’: Girls: Thelma Clarke (pierrette) Ist, Nora Bellringer (Robin Ho d) 2nd, Mavis McKay (Powder and Puff) 3rd. Boys: Master Cox (coster) Ist, Baby Ericksen (Baggy Breeches) 2nd. The prize for best-dressed girl wa< a war e l to Audrey Hay., and she was also awarded a special prize in addition. Special prizes were also awarded to Baby Novak (Kewpie), Gerald Hoskin (merger). IL Fields (Caebucha girl), Mabel Gore . (Spanish Girl), Hilda -Jury (Gipsy). The children greatly enjoyed the dance pro gramme, and later were served with an excellent supper. Subsequently there was a dame for adults, the floor being well filled.
