INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Dec. 5. The Inglewood Convent School matinee concert, which, in compliance with special request, was repeated on Saturday afternoon, was again a definite success. Again the long programme was carried through from start to finish without a single hitch. The few variations introduced in no interfered with the unhurried progress of item after item, nor disturbed the serenity of the performers, a good proof of the excellent training they have received. As on Thursday, so on Saturday, the juvenile selections gave special pleasure, and the very youthful drummer in the front rank when “I’d like to be a Drummer Boy” was performed once more scored a marked success. That the financial results are fairly satisfactory (net something over £4O) should be some recompense to those whose unsparing care and skilful management were so greatly the reasons for success being scored, and warm congratulations are their
due. The management state that a debt of thanks is due to Mr. F. W. G. McLeod, L.T.S., of New Plymouth, for the special attention he gave and pains he took to make sure that, so far as the three pianos used were concerned, nothing was overlooked that might make assurance of harmony doubly sure. The idea of holding school in daytime is new to the people here, and since Thursday’s experience has been freely and favorably commented on by all and sundry, so that if a fashion is set by this irial event still further thanks to the promoters will be coming from harried parents relieved, and sprightly children who would at night be fagged.
