OPENING OF THE SALES. INCREASE IN By Tvh'.crnph.— I*: ess Association Napier. Last Night. The opening wool sales of the season in the Dominion were held here to-day. There was a large attendance -of buyers, representing all sections of the trade. Americans were very much to the front, bidding for all super wools. Local mills competed strongly for fine wools and supei' pieces. Lambs' wool was neglected. The Continent took most of the medium and inferior wools’ selection, such as to create competition from all sections of the trade. Fully 70 per cent of the offerings (16,003 bales) was sold under the hammer. Prices generally show an advance of one penny to twopence. The official range of prices is: Fine halfbred super up to 12|d, medium halfbreds super up to 12d, coarser halfbreds super up to Hfd, average 9d to 10£d; fine crossbred super 7%d to average to 7d, inferior 5d to 5Jd; medium crossbred super Gid to 73d, average 5d to 6d, inferior 3VL‘d to 4%d; coarse crossbred super 4£d to 54(1, average 3j|d to 4d. inferior 23d to 3?Jcl; low crossbred super 4d to 4|d, average 3.}d to 3<d, inferior 2£d to 3d; hoggets fine to B%d, medium Bid, coarse s.]d, low 4d; lambs seedy and inferior 2Jd to 4Jd; bellies and pieces halfbred good to super to Sd, low to medium 4.3 d; crossbred good to super to 7d, low to medium l%d to 33d; crutc'nings medium to good 23d to 4d, inferior and seedy Id to 2d; locks halfbred 3d to 3Jd, crossbred 2d to l£d.
