VIENNA RIOTS.
EXTENSIVE PILLAGING. FORTY THOUSAND PARTICIPATE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Vienna, Dec. 1. Pillagings in the city include the Bristol Hotel, .where English and American guests sought refuge in Sir William Goode’s room. The plunderers broke open the room, rifled the boxes, stole the whole of Sir William’s clothing, threw the telephone and a slipper at him, but both missiles missed. The mob also raided two banks, smashing the windows and furniture, stopped tramcars and forced the better class passengers to hand over their furs and overcoats. MUCH DAMAGE TO BUILDINGS. FOUR HUNDRED ARRESTS MADE. Vienna, Dec. 2. Forty thousand workers partook in, the outbreak, which was dangerously like an economic revolution. The whole ol Vienna’s west end. containing hotels, the largest stores and restaurants. was sacked and pillaged. Heavy damage was done to buildings in the Ringstrasse, one of the world’s most handsome streets. The city quietened in the evening. Four hundred arrests were effected. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
