PERSONALS. Mrs. F. S. Johns is on a visit to Wanganui. Miss Bethwaite, who has been the guest of Mrs. Johns, has returned to Wanganui. Mrs. Gordon Fraser has returned from a trip to Auckland. Mrs. L. B. Webster is visiting Feilding. # * • • Mrs. Rex. Brewster left this week for a vist to Wellington. Mrs. Frank Broughton, of Auckland, is visiting New Plymouth. Miss Agnes Wilson has returned from a holiday in Auckland. Mrs. T. Nicholls is the guest of Mrs. Townsend, of Marton. Mrs. Le May has left for a holiday in Roturoa. ♦ • * • Mrs. Honey field, who is the guest of Miss Rawson, intends motoring back to Patea early in the week. Miss Marshall is spending the week-end at Inglewood. ♦ • • • Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Heppell and family, of Mangorei Road, left New Plymouth on Thursday to take up their residence *in Waitara. « • • • Miss Preston, who has been visiting 'N'ew Plymouth in connection with Y.W.C.A. work, left this week for Auckland. * * » X Mrs. J. R. Reed (Auckland) is a visitor to New Plymouth. Miss Alice Gunn, sister of Dr. Gunn, is visiting Mrs. Balfour Mabin at Onaero. Miss Alison Greig left yesterday for a visit to Auckland. * ♦ • * Miss St. John Smith, who has been spending some weeks here, returned to A kland last night. A SMALL DANCE. A committee consisting of Mrs. E. Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Denny-Brown, Misses Rockel, O. Shaw, J. Home, Messrs. Stratford, Etherington and B. Wilson, were responsible for a delightful dance at Kawaroa last Wednesday. Miss Alison Greig was the guest of honor, the dance having been arranged as an appreciation of the many happy functions at “Glen Almond.” CROQUET CLUB PARTY. The New Plymouth Croquet Club, who are busy raising funds for their new club, held a bridge and euchre party at Kawaroa on Thursday afternoon. There were between 40 and 50 ladies present, and a most enjoyable time was spentMrs. D. K. Morrison, who was- in charge of a cake stall, and Mrs. C. Curtis and Mrs. Cook, who had a flower stall, did brisk business with the sale of their wares. Miss Rawson won first prize at bridge and Mrs. Butchart the second, while Miss Curtis won the euchre prize. MOTHERS’ MART At one o’clock to-day the Workers’ Hall will be well worth a visit- Mothers from far and'-near have joined to make I their mart a success, and so help the Old High School Girls in their loyal endeavor to raise funds to provide a good girls’ boarding school for New Plymouth and surrounding districts. The sewing stall, under Mesdamos Fitzherbert, H. Fookes, Cruickshank, Greatbach, and Bullock, has had to be enlarged, and there is an extra emergency stall for the meat, tinder the management of Mesdames Sumner and Bell, with Mr. Honeyfield as lord high executioner, containing sucking pig, goose, fowls, mutton, veal. lamb. etc. The produce stall, under Mesdames Grover, Valentine. Bellringer, and Hine, threatens to overflow if you don't hurry up and buy, and there is a competition for a Christmas ham and a huge turkey. * Mrs. E. A. Walker has donated a handsome blouse for competition also. Mrs. Day and her young ladies are preparing for the afternoon tea rush, and the ice cream stall; Mrs. Willis for the competition “Bobs;"’ Mrs. l.ysons > and Mrs. Mason for the sweet stall. The ’ flower stall, under Mrs. List, promises to look its sweetest and most fragrant. The High School girls, as usual, will look charming at the basket stall. We are considering letting the Christmas tree in through the roof, as the doors a,re not large enough. Besides, how is Santa Claus to descend from his aeroplane? The cake stall is under the control of Mesdames Perrott, Medley, and Washer, and will be particularly tempting. The Christmas tree will be managed by Mesdames Harrison. Waters, Waterson, Blundell, and A. MacDairmid. Mr. Leonard Smith's Punch and Judy show is just waiting to show the boys and girls just what it can do. The mart is under the management of Mrs. A. M. MacDairmid. WEDDINGS. OLIVER—DEANE. A very pretty but quiet wedding took ■ place at bt Mary h Church, New Ply- j mouth, on Wednesday afternoon. No- | rember 22, when Miss Kathleen Deane. I fourth daughter of Mrs. Ann Deane, of : Hawera, was married to Mr. Harold : Oliver, third son of Mr. and Mrs. S. I Oliver, of New Plymouth. The Rev. F. i G. Harvie performed the ceremony. The ] bride, who was given away by her brother. Mr. Tom Deane, of Hawera, I looked very pretty in a dress of accordeon pleated crepe de chine, trimmed ■ with pearls and silk lace, and also wore ( the usual veil and orange blossoms' and carried a bouquet of white roses, I lily of the valley, maidenhair and as- | paragus fern. The bride was attended . bv her two little neiecs as bridesmaids, | Miss Ursula Deane and Miss Marjorie I Jennings, both of Hawera, who wore i dresses of white net and hat’s to match. . and carried bouquets of pink carnations, I cenerarias and asparagus fern.
