The hearing wAs resumed of the case in which the liquidators of Nevanas and Company, Limited, have charged William Henry Cuffin and Sidney Vigars Nevanas with the fraudulent conversion of Government moneys. totalling £170,000, while acting as Government meat agents. The prosecuting counsel alleged that defendants received a largo number of cheques from dealers an account of Government meat which defendants had sold, and instead of paying the cheques into a separate account, ear-marked for Government transactions, they paid them into their own business accounts and i the money for their own purposes. C. ..n<el contended that Cuffin must have known Government money was being used for other purposes, and. that' the company was hopelessly insolvent. - In 1920 some materia,l, books and paid cheques disappeared.
