KAURI TIMBER.
CONSERVATION URGED. By Telegraph-—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. The conference of the Builders' Federation concluded to-day. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. H. Mainland (Wellington) ; vice-president, Mr. W. H. Winsor (Christchurch) ; treasurer, Mr. W. J. Clark (Wellington); executive. Messrs. W. H. Bennett, H. M. Wilson, A. H. Mildenhall (Wellington), j. C. Brown, J. Dick (Christchurch); representative on the Employers’ Association advisory board, Mr. H. Mainland; Parliamentary committee, Mr. W. H. Bennett. A discussion took place on the position of the kauri timber industry, and the following resolution was carried; “That this representative conference of the Builders’ Federation of New Zealand unanimously requests the Government: (1) To inquire into the evident mistake in misrepresentation in the returns' for the year ending March 31, 1921. concerning kauri timber. t During theQ year kauri timber has been almost unprocurable in New Zealand, and we believe that the statements that 18,445,657 superficial feet of kaurj were placed in the New Zealand market were far from correct, at least so far as the use of timber New Zealand is concerned; (2) that it immediately prevent further exportation of this valuable timber, which cannot be replaced, and rigidly regulate the sale and distribution of the remaining 136,009,000 odd feet now the property of the Crown.”
