The annual sports in connection with the Bayly Memorial Scholarship will, by courtesy of the New Plymouth High School, be held on the High School grounds to-morrow, commencing at 11 a.tn. The requirements for scholastic attainments this year have* been widened, taking aa the the proficiency examination instead of, as previously, the junior national scholarship examination. This was decided .on with the idea of inducing further competition, especially among the primary school pupils. As a result there will be more competitors than usual to-morrow, Patea, Hawera, Te Roti, Stratford, Central and New Plymouth High School Preparatory being represented. There is, however, room for much greater interest in this scholarship by country schools.
