ARBUCKLE SENSATION.
PRISONER TELLS HIS STORY. DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyrlgtt. Received Nov. 29, 8.20 p.m. San Francisco, Nov. 28. Arbuckle entered the witness stand in his own defence this afternoon, causing a sensation in the crowded courtroom. He testified as follows: — “Miss Rappe came to my room at the St. Francis Hotel on September 7. Mrs. Delmont was with her. She did not come by my invitation, neither did Miss Pyvron or Mrs. Blake. I was dressed in pyjamas and a bathrobe. About 3 p.m. I saw Miss Rappe in my room. I was then going out for an engagement with Miss Taube. I had seen her in another room just previously. The door of the room was open when I saw her. I found her in the bathroom on the floor bolding her stomach and vomiting. I picked her up and gave her a glass of water. Miss Rappe said she would like to lie down and I carried her to a bed. She said she had these spells often. “I went to the bathroom and when I returned she was on the floor writhing ■ and moa»ry»g. I called Mis? Pyvron and Mrs. Blake and when they came she was tearing her clothes. She pulled off her dress and tore her stockings. I told the girls to stop her and tried to help. I went out and when I returned Mrs. Delmont was rubbing her with iee. Miss Rappe said nothing anyone could understand. I did not place my hand on Miss Rappe’s hand while she had hold, of the door and did not ask for the key to Miss Rappe’s dressing-room at the Culver City studios. I’ve told everything that occurred while I was in the room with Miss Rappe.” Arbuckle said that while Mias Rapp? lay on the bed he picked up a piece of ice and Mrs. Delmont to>ld him to get out. H e told her to shut up, or he would throw her out of the window. He then had the hotel manager and a doctor called. z The prosecution cross-examined Arbuckle, endeavoring to ascertain how long Miss Rappe was in the bedroom before he entered. Arbuckle said he did not know. He was dancing with other members of the party and making himself generally genial. The court adjourned with Arbuckle still on the stand.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Awn.
