CHRISTMAS NUMBER OF THE TARANAKI DAILY NEWS. INTERESTING COMPETITIONS ENTRIES BY THE 30th INST. J£NTRIES for the various competitions in connection with the Christmas Number of the Daily News elose On Wednesday, November 30. The details of the competitions are: ORIGINAL SHORT STORY. (1) Original Open Short Story, not to exceed 2000 words. First prize £3 3s. (2) Essay From Children up to and including Standard 3. Subject: “My Greatest Ambition—and Why.” First £1 Is; second 10s. TARANAKI’S HISTORY. (3) Essay From Pupils of Primary and Secondary Schools. Subject: “Features of Taranaki’s History.” First £1 Is; second 10s. HOW TO MANAGE A HOME. (4) Essay From Girls. Subject: “How I Would Manage a Home.” First £1 Is; second 10s. DESIGNING AND MANAGING 4 KITCHEN. (5) The Views of Housewives are sought on the question of breaking the monotony and drudgery of the kitchen, and a prize of £2 2s is offered for the best system of designing and managing a kitchen with the object of saving labor. Compactness should be a feature, as well as labor-saving. A MODEL HOME. (6) Another competition relating to the home is for a design of a model five-roomed house, conveniently arranged, with the maximum of lighting and air. The house should be one which would not cost more than £l2OO. First £2 2s. This competition is now open to both sexes. A PRIZE FOR SPORTSMEN. (7) Another prize of £1 Is is offered for the most interesting sporting paragraph of an incident in Taranaki.
