Or dara fur papers may also be left with them. PERSONAL. November 26. Mr. R. Masters, M.P., who was in Stratford for the A. and P. Show, returned to Wellington by the mail train this morning. Whilst at the show Mr. Masters experienced a little of that which falls to the lot of the famous. A person approached him, genially shook hands and enquired how he was. “How do you do,” said the local M.P. I must say you have the advantage of me.” “Oh, I’ve seen you half-a-dozen times in the House,” was the reply. Mr. R. Smeaton, after a stay of three weeks in the Stratford Hospital, left that institution to-day. GENERAL. During the past four months the local Magistrate’s Court has not had a single case of drunkenness to deal with, which must be something like a record. Stratford last night experienced one of the heaviest rainstorms that has ever occurred in the district. It was raining earlier in the evening but at about eight o'clock rain began to descend in torrents and the heavy downpour was kept up until nearly, ten o’clock. Stratford met Midhrrst in a friendly cricket match on the Stratford Recreational Ground to-day, the home team scoring a heavy victory. Particulars of the scores are not available, but it is understood that Stratford scored 106 and Midhirst between 30 and 40. The

Thursday teams from these two towns will play a competition match oh the Recreational Ground next Thursday. Since its inception the Stratford Club has gone ahead rapidly and is now firmly established and able to put a good team intp the field.

A man was arrested at the Stratford show grounds on Thursday and remanded to Auckland, where he was to appear to-day on a charge of wife desertion. There was some comment at the recent show on the fact that the usual “merry-go-round” was ndt present. This has been explained in a letter of apology which the secretary of the A. and P. Association received from the proprietor of the “merry-go-round.” The annual meeting of the Stratford branch of the Women’s National Reserve will be held in the municipal chambers at 3 o’clock on Wednesday next. In addition to receiving the annual report and balwhce-shedt, the meeting will consider the advisability of disbanding and a full attendance of members is requested. THE'KING’S THEATRE. “RUDD’S NEW SELECTION.” Another uproarious Australian comedy has been added to Messrs. E. J. and Dan Carroll’s film successes, and on Monday night there will be screened at The King’s Theatre, Sltratford, “Rudd’s New Selection.” The delightful characters which Steele Rudd gave Jo the world are again seen, but in a new story, this time one of humorous domesltic differences with a g.impse or two of pathos and a sentimental story, not without its dramatie moments revolving round the picturesque figure of its bush heroine, charmingly played by Miss Lottie Lyell of “Sentimental Bloke” fame. Rudd s New Selection” was produced under .the direction of Raymond Longford, whose work proves again that Australian films under capable producers take a place with the best that .the world produces. Book seats at theatre office.
