Photographs of sporting and other events are regularly sent over the telegraph wires between Sydney and Melbourne. Recently the Sydney Sun printed a- good picture of the finish of the Victorian Derby in its Sunday edition on the morning after the race. As it appeared in the paper, the photograph showed no signs of having been transmuted into electrical impulses and back again. In Europe and America the pro cess 'has been so far developed that pictures haue actually been transmitted long distances by wireless and cable. The London Daily Mirror printed pictures of the Cajpentier-Dempsey fight 36 hours after the event. “History and geography are dreadfully neglected by young teachers,” remarked Mr. D. W.
