LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The monthly meeting of the executive «)1 tte North Taranaki Head Centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society was held on Friday night. Mr. A. R. Standish presided. ‘ A letter was received from the Christchurch Head Centre in regard to an education officer, with a view to establishing some kind of union standard for life-saving for the whole Dominion. The letter stated that Mr. B. S. Knox had secured three weeks’ leave of absence from January 7 next, and It was proposed that be should tour in districts where the society was not at present getting results, but where material is waiting, as evinced by the huge totals of s’wiimming certificates granted by the N.Z.A.S.A. Council last year. It was pointed out that the time of the visit of Mr. Knox, in January, would not be a very convenient one, being in the middle of the school holidays* Some comment was also made on the standhrd required in North Taranaki, several members being of the opinion that it was very high, and not enough distinction made between boys and aauns. After some discussion it was decided to call a meeting of instructors and medallion holders this week to consider matters relating to Mr. Knox’s visit. An intimation was received of the formation of a life-saving club by the Old Boys' Association, with headquarters at Ngaraotu, and application was made for a reel for the club. It was decided to apply to the Head centre for a reel for Ngamotu, and in. the meantime permission was granted the Old Boys' Club to remove the reel now on the Fitzroy beach’ for practice purposes, until a new reel was procured. A sub-coinunlttee was set up to arrange for the purchase of a new reel, and with power to act. Applications were received from the New Plymouth Swimming Club and the Old Boys’ Club for affiliation with the local Head Centre of the Life-Saving Society. A donation from Mr. W. C. Weston towards the funds of the centre was gratefully acknowledged.
