GLEN ALMOND ESTATE.

The rapid growth of the town of New Plymouth in recent years, resulting largely from the growing trade and importance of the port, and the great expansion of tte dairying industry throughout the province, brought about by more scientific treatment of soil and herds,- is fast creating a scarcity of suitable home sites in the town. Areas that a few years ago were broad acres devoted solely to the raising of stock, are now thickly dotted with pretty homes, and Glen Almond, the property of Mr. H. Greig, is the next to be passed on for the use and benefit of the town dweller. With an area of 16 acres, it has been subdivided into 2G building allotments, and these are to be sold by public auction by Newton King, Ltd., on the sites on Friday, December 2. at 2 p.m. This property, situated on Devon Street, the town’s principal thoroughfare, and Belt Road, is practically in the heart of the town, being only 60 chains from the post omee,’ and within three minutes from tte trams at either South Road or Morley Street, from ' whence one tram section reaches the centre of the town. Having viewed the subdivision, we are in a position to confirm the statement that in every respect these home sites are quite equal to any of the most favored positions overlooking the town of New Plymouth, cr anywhere in its vicinity. They are all level or gently undulating, and situated on the terrace overlooking the town, ocean, and port, and commanding a fine view of the mountain ffom its base upwards. The soil :s of excellent quality for gardening purposes, as evidenced by the luxuriant growth uf everything in the gardens surrounding the home. The building sites are all of generous size, as an inducement towards the fulfilment of the vendor's desire that in the fullness of time the subdivision shall become a real garden suburb, worthy of its environment, and contiguity to * the beautiful grounds surrounding the .homestead and comprising .he Glen. The pohutukawa trees edging the new street to be constructed through the property, and other fine speciimens throughout the grounds, intermixed with rimu’s, totara’s, malai’s, pouriri’s, fern trees, etc., constitute one of the most unique collections of native trees and shrubs to be found in any private grounds in the Dominion. The home is a spacious and well-designed house, containing eleven large and lofty rooms, and most complete appointments gen- ' erally, all in first-class order. The view frcuu this position Is magnificent. The immediate environment is picturesque to a degree. Orange, lemon, and mandarin trees are in full bearing, and flowering shrubs, roses and border flowers confront the eye everywhere. There is an extra large tennis and croquet lawn in fine playing condition. The homestead is a most delightful property replete with all the in and out-door amenities incidental to comfortable and refined home life. < The Glen, about two acres in area, is a spot : that must appeal to all lovers of landscape i beauty. There is a good orchard and a rose, garden, the blooms from which are known ft-r their quality throughout the province. A perpetually running spring suggests great possibilities in the nature of bathing pools, fish ponds, etc. It is an ideal site for establishing a small nursery, the growing of flowers commercially or for tea gardens. We feel sure the public will appreciate the opportunity c.f securing such excellent and unusual home sites.
