ALLEGED OPIUM DEN.
A RAID IN AUCKLAND. THREE WOMEN ARRESTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Nov. 25. Three women aged 18, 21. and 28, in a dazed condition, allegedly from the effects of opium, were arrestedffast evening at a Chinese laundry in the city on a charge of vagrancy. " In consequence rtf' a statement by one woman, another Chinese establishment was searched by detectives and it is stated a quantity of tincture of opium, a lamp and other articles used by opium smokers were seized. At the Police Court, Mabel Ryan (28), Frances Ellen Gledhill (21). and Queenie Harwood (18), were charged with vagrancy. Detective M‘llveney said the three accused were found in an upstairs bedroom of a Chinese den, practically naked and apparently dazed with opium or drink. There were Chinamen in the room with them, also partially clothed. The accused were remanded for a week, on bail of .-©lOO each.
