WAR MEMORIAL.

UNVEILING AT ST. MABY’S. SECOND TARANAKI’S FLAG. The Memorial Brass, in the form of a roll of honor, at St. Mary’s Cliurch, is to I)e formally unveiled by Colonel Weston, and dedicated by the Bishop of Auckland, at a special service to-morrow at 3 p.m. It is expected that there will be a representative gathering of returned soldiers, territorials, Maori war, and South Afican war veterans, for whom •seats will be reserved. Seats will also be reserved for the near relations of the soldiers commemorated, up to 2.50 p.m., after which all seats in the church will The flag to be presented by Major Urquhart is the flag which accompanied the Taranaki Company of the 2nd Battalion Wellington Infantry Regiment through France into Germany, and bears the names, “Somme 1916-191'8,” “Messines,” “La Basse Ville,” “Bapaume,” “Crevecoeur,” “Briastre,” “Paesehendaele,” “Bancourt,” “Welsh Ridge,” “Le Quesnoy,” and “The Rhine, 191819.” In the centre, on a black ground, is the yellow diamond bearing a representation of-Mount Egmont and “Taranaki Rifles 11th Regiment,” together with the names “Suez Canal, 1915,” “Korithia,” “Anzac Landing,” and “Chunuk Bair.” This flag will be a fitting companion to the Roll of Honor, and will be suspended above it. A framed statement will be attached to the wall close by in order that its history and associations may be known to visitors. It is hoped that this will be the first part of a larger memorial in the chureh, the nature of which is yet to be determined. A collection will be taken at the service on Sunday afternoon for the memorial fund. Relatives who have received invitations are asked to enter tne church by the transept door, the veterans, returned soldiers, territorials, and the Mayor and borough councillors will enter by the main door at the top of the steps; The general public are asked t? enter by the west door.
