THE WOOL HOLD-UP.
STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Nov. 22. A cablegram from Sydney, reporting that wool sales had been resumed under the old conditions, buyers being allowed 14 days' credit instead oi 21, was mentioned in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr. G. Witty (Riccarton) drew the attention of the Prime Minister to the iqessage and asked if a settlement of the dispute in New Zealand had been secured. He mentioned that several wool buyers had come to New Zealand on the Tahiti on Monday and had expressed disappointment at” the suspension of the sales. The Prime Minister said he was sorry to report that no settlement had been leached. Negotiations were proceeding and. the indications were that a settlement would be reached within a few days. He had been very glad, to notice that the difficulty had been adjusted in Australia. If a settlement could be reached there, il ought to be possible in New Zealand. He understood that the difficulty was in England rather than in New Zealand, and until the parties behind the scenes agreed he did not see how a settlement could be arranged here. But he had reason’ to believe that the people interested in the wool trade in Britain were anxious that the sales be resumed. He had sent another cablegram on the subject to the head of the wool trade in Britain.
