RURAL MAIL SERVICES.
EXTENT OF THE OPERATIONS. AN /INTERESTING RETURN By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the House this afternoon the Post-master-General made a statement regarding the position of rural main services, about which there has been considerable discussion recently. The statement covered the period of the twelve months ended May 31, 1921, and was as follows: (1) The number of rural mail deliveries in New Zealand: 270. (2) The number of non-contributing services: 178. (a) The number which showed a loss, 123; total amount of such loss, £5499 4s 6d. (b) The number which showed no loss, 55. (c) The number which showed a profit (same deliveries as referred to in (b), 55; total amount oi such profit, £3155 10s. (3) The number of contributing services, 92. (a) The number which showed a loss, 66; total amount of such loss, £2796. (b) The number which showed no loss, 26. (c) The number which showed a profit (same deliveries as referred tc in (b); 26; total amount of such profit, £403 (subject to a refund of contributions).
