Mr. Wilson, who visited Paris during rhe week-end with the object of ascertaining Carpentier’s condition, states that the Cook fight has been definitely fixed for January 12. Lucas informed the Australian Press Association that he has no knowledge of tl:e new postponement. ‘’l am in the dark,” he said. 'I have Cook doing hard work preparing for the original date. ELTHAM TOURNAMENT. TO-NIGHT’S PROGRAMME. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Tim tournament at Eltham to-night will no doubt draw a large crowd from all the neighboring towns. The Eltham Association are to be congratulated on having arranged such an excellent professional contest, and patrons can be assured of a good evening's sport. Stewart Smith arrived from the north yesterday morning, and his manager, Charles, states that the former has never been fitter in his career. Having knocked out Keenan in six rounds, he is drawing a good deal of support. He is noted for his clean sportsmanship, clever boxing and hard-hitting. It will be a very fast and exciting contest. Preston, who turns the scale at 9.12, is a remarkably well built lad. The winner of this contest is well hidden. They box for 15 3-mlnute rounds. The professional contest will be preceded by* five amateur bouts, the best lads obtainable in Taranaki competing. Collins and Childs, two bantams, will open the proceedings, both lads being clever and hard boxers. Canute, of Stratford, meets Hunter, of Riverlea, who recently won his contest at the New Plymouth tourney. A. Clarry (Eltham) and K. Fitzsimmons (Matapu) try conclusions In the middle-weight class.
