ATTEMPTED THEFT. By Telegraph.—Press Association Auckland, Last Night. At the Supreme Court Phillip McManus, for attempted theft from the person, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. Accused was detected abstracting a wallet from the pocket of a petty officer of the Philomel during the running of a race at a trotting meeting at Alexandra Park on October 26. THE GAMING LAW. Palmerston N.» Last Night. Edwin Pratt was fined £4O and costs in the Magistrate’s Court to-day for frequenting a street for the purpose of betting, and £lO and costs on a charge of exhibiting a double card.
