LABOR CONFERENCE.

USE OF WHITE LEAD. VIEWS OF MEDICAL EXPERTS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.- —Copyrlgtt. Geneva, Nov. 18. After a long debate the White Lead Commission evolved, a new convention embracing the French amendment. This prohibits the use of white lead in painting inside buildings,' but permits it for outside work. The convention will operate from 1927. A two-thirds majority at the plenary conference is necessary to confirm the convention. London, Nov. 17. The General Labor Conference adopted by 45 votes to 44 the French amendment forbidding the use of white lead. Geneva, Nov. 18. The forces for the prohibition of white lead were routed by medical experts. The British Government’s adviser indicated that if the restriction against its use for interior painting only, to be brought into operation six years hence, was accepted as a compromise it could be considered that the whole campaign against white lead would cease and the matter be buried for all time. Following tnis view the conference almost unanimously agreed to the convention.—-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
