NORTH TARANAKI COMPETITIONS. RESULTS OF SATURDAY’S PLAY. The cricket competitions in North Taranaki were continued on Saturday in splendid weather. In the A grade matches Western Park gained a three-point win over Waitara, playing at Waitara, the home club sustaining their first defeat, and New Ply- ! mouth High School defeated New Plymouth A. In the B grade the Harbor Board team defeated New Plymouth, and High School won their match with Technical College. Waitara, who journeyed to New Plymouth, defeated Old Boys in a match at the racecourse. The details of tie matches are given below. A GRADE PERFORMANCES. WITH THE BAT. Kingston (Waitara) 74 WITH THE BALL. Palmer (High School), six for 18. Macdonald (Western Park), five for 20. Williams (Waitara), six for 27. A GRADE. WESTERN PARK v. WAITARA. Western Park journeyed to Waitara and gained a three-point win over Waitara. Waitara batted first, but could not make any stand against R. B. Macdonald’s and Dinnis’ bowling, being all disposed of for 47 runs. Park replied with 79, those to make double figures being R. B. Macdonald 17, G. Dinnis 16, and EL B. Gray (not out) 15. Waitara followed and went for hard hitting with considerable success, they hoping to dispose of Western Park in an hour, declaring for 126 for two wickets, of which seore Kingston compiled 74 and Ross 38 not out. Kingston’s innings was a very bright display. Western Park, in their second innings, made 96 for nine wickets, tt-ereby securing a threepoint win by one wicket and 2 runs. The finish of the match was very exciting, the ■- inning hit being made right on call of time. 8. Palmer contributed a chanceless innings with 49, and other double figure scorers were R. B. Macdonald 19 an-’ H. B. Gray 12. The fielding of the Waitara team was excellent, but Western Park were very patchy. The scores are:— WAITARA. ■ First Innings.

Bowling analysis—Macdonald took five wickets for 20 runs, Dinnis three for 19.

School replied with 154 (Taylor 35, Jeffries not out 21). Bowling for the school Palmer secured six wickets Tor 18 runs. Clarke secured three of the school wickets at the expense of 27 runs. Harbor Works and New Plymouth juniors tried conclusions on the racecourse No. 2 ground. Harbor Works gaining a lead on the first Innings of 14. Harbor Works made 48 (T. Carey 10, G. Carey 10), to which New Plymouth replied with 34 (Stephenson 11). Kinsella, Bowers and Hughes bowled well for New Plymouth, whilst for Harbor Works T. and G. Carey bowled unchanged. Waitara and Old Boys met at the racecourse No. 3 ground, when the visitors scored a comfortable three-point win by an innings and 52 runs. Old Boys took first strike and were all out for 29, no batsman unaking double figures. Waitara. ran up 93 before they e disposed of, double figures being compileu by Kirby 28. Lang 25, and W. Skelton 17. Old Boys had a second innings, but failed to reach the total to avert a threepoint win, Ovey knocking up 12. For Waitara O. Skelton and Kettle bowled unchanged, whilst the > most successful trundlers for Old Boys were McLachlan and Burton. Following are the scores:— WAITARA. First Innings.

HIGH SCHOOL 11. In their match against Technical College High School 11. gained the decision by an innings and 64 mns. The weather was glorious and the wicket good for the opening of the match between the Australians and Western Provinces. In their first innings Western Provinces made 153, while Australia has lost three wickets for' 162. Carter, Gregory, McDonald and Armstrong did not play for Australia. Features of the game were fine bowling by Macartney and Malley, and the splendid fielding of the Australians. Hendry bowled without success. The batting was slow. The only effective partnership was that of Hearn and Thomas. The Australians’ batting was lively and they rattled up runs, Bardsley’s 66 taking eighty-five minutes.
