NEW ZEALAND AND GOOD MARKET With respect to butter produced in New Zealand, it may be interesting to state that the local consumption in itself is a trade well worth having. The Imperial Supplies Department, in a recent report laid on the table of the House of Representatives, showed the following figures relating to export and Dominion domestic consumption in pounds for the past three seasons: Export Local 1 rade. trade. 1917- 41,-258,738 21,280,478 1918- 37,704,912 25,142,880 1919- 29,652,466 36,402,036 On the above showing the local consumption exceeded the export trade in quantity for 1919-20. The quantities made, exported, and locally consumed this last season, 1920-21, are not yet available. A phenomenal purchase of Friesiaris is reported in England. Sir Charles Markham has purchased for £31,000 the valuable herd of Friesian cattle belonging to Mr. .1. H. Bean, Chaddesley Corbett, Kidderminster. This herd includes the cow Hedges Moss Ross, which yielded 4500 gallons of milk in two successive years and was sold for 6000 guineas.
