HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.
ffEW PLYMOUTH EXTENSIONS. BETTER PROGRESS IN FUTURE. More rapid strides in the carrying out of the New Plymouth hydro electric extensions may from now on according to the monthly report of the borough general manager (Mr. F. T. Bellringer). In the course of the report he remarks that conclusion has been reached in the long controversy in regard to the advisability of making provision to enable a fourth pipeline between the new forebay and the powerhouse to be constructed at a future date if found necessary. Mr. Bellringer continues:
“Almost from its commeneeme n t the progress of the work, has been severely handicapped owing to the fact that it had to be confined to one end of the job until the purchase of certain, other lands and easements could be negotiated with an adjoining owner. These negotiations presented difficulties and caused considerable delay and expense. How'ever, these difficulties were overcome and the necessary legal formalities completed during the month. Further works have therefore been opened up and in a short tfime work will be proceeding at every possible point. The number of men employed has been almost doubled and in the future the resident engineer will not only be able to make much better progress than in the past, but will be able to organise the whole of the work to advantage leading to greater efficiency and economy.”
